a day late and a dollar short, usually

Today was the Great American Smoke Out, and I almost made it.  SO close.  For the past few weeks, I have been taking Chantix, trying to wean myself from nicotine.  The good news is, I'm down from a pack of cigarettes to maybe 5 a day, give or take one.  I wanted to make a statement with the Smoke Out, and did not have one all day long - until 5:30, and since then, I've had 2 cigarettes.  Damn. I couldn't do it.  But there's tomorrow, and I will try again.

The Chantix has helped a immensely.  The side effects haven't been too bad - there have been vivid dreams, but they weren't the nightmares of which the accompanying literature warned.  As a matter of fact, they've been pretty darned good.  One night, Tom Selleck invited me to our own private coffee house for lattes.  Another night, I was pleasantly surprised to find myself back in medium custody, greeting my friends.  I woke with that warm feeling you get with good dreams so real you can feel every hug and recall every expression.

Wish me luck.

Hey Spice*... You've got my support!*... what you've written is so encouraging!*  Had an Rx for Chantix but never had it filled for fear of those nightmares.  Did take Zyban a while back and made it down to 3, but cheated with puffs.  Also did Lazor Concepts and Hypnotism....wish me luck!*   :)

Happy Thanksgiving to All!*

Well, THOSE dreams sound good!  :)  Have a latte to share?

You had only 2 cigarettes, instead of a full pack?  Great!

So, by next year, probably sooner, you'll be through with those cigarettes altogether.  :)

Mara...I stopped cold turkey seven years ago on November 20, tomorrow. It also was the day my ex died from cancer of the liver. Scared me to death, so much so that I never gave the withdrawal much attention. I found chewing Extra polar ice sugar free gum helped me alot. Good luck with it....I tried six times to stop the 7th was the charm...and a scare....love, Sandi

Coming down from a pack to only 5 cigs a day is pretty good, I'd say.  I hope you stick with it and the Chantix continues to work for you.  I wish my sister, P.J. would try it.  She's tried so often to quit and has never been able to.  Maybe if I tell her about the types of dreams you had as a side-effect, she'll give it a try.
Take care and keep up the good work!

If you want to quit, quit. If you don't really want to quit, stop pretending you do.
