Wondering About

You could call me a country cousin type.  I have lived my life in rural areas - I'm talking back roads and dirt roads, horse pastures and deer running through the yard at night, having someone come in and clear-cut the forest behind the house, country.  I've never had the desire to live in town, but sometimes...

When I'm riding through a neighborhood that looks hometown, I wonder what it would be like to live there.

There is a street in Aberdeen that sometimes feels like Sunday morning to me. That could be because you can hear the bells from the Methodist church on Main Street, and there is sometimes a quiet that has the reverence of a prayer. Other times, it has a just-after-the-fair atmosphere - all the pastels of cotton candy, folks walking their dogs or pushing their babies in strollers.  There's a busy hot dog stand on the corner that has a creek running behind it, and on weekends, they have live enterainment by the water.  A bed and breakfast is on the opposite side, and Christmas is always lit up and cheerful. It's a happy street.

There is no point to this blog, except today, I passed through Aberdeen and was struck by how much I like that neighborhood.  I haven't captured it here by a long shot, but wanted to write it.  That's a good sign.

You decribed it well. Sounds like a nice place to live. Our minister spoke about walking barefoot on back roads today. I remember that sand as being very hot. lol Paula

Never lived in a really rural area, but I enjoy driving through them! I think the smallest "town" that I lived in had over 35,000 people in it. Down here there are lots of people you just don't see them...they run so quick from the house, to the car, living from air conditioning to air conditioning..lol. Sometimes our downtown area has events and they pull in over 40,000 people....I always marvel at that...they come out of their holes like lemmings rushing towards the sea....love, Sandi

It definitely gave me a few minutes of pleasant reflection. It's like that in downtown Owego, were they have a couple of old town shops. It's an absolute delight to go there during the holidays. (Hugs)Indigo

I grew up in that kind of "country" too, and I know what you mean.  For the past 17 years we've lived in the city, but our city has a "small-town" feel to it, and I like that.  I enjoyed this entry.

I've lived in both, and spent some time(short!) working and staying in a "burb" of a city.  I'll take small town, although if I lived in the country, I could have my big garden.......
I love finding those "picture perfect places", and the point of your entry was to share that thought with us.  :)
